What devices does Hush work with?

iOS and Android devices with Bluetooth 4.0 enabled Last updated: Wed, Nov 12 2014 1:32 pm EST

Can Hush stream music from a smartphone?

Short answer, not this version. Long answer, Hush is a smart earplug that is designed to protect your sleep through the entire night. We built Hush to be able to play noise masking sounds for 10 hours to protect your sleep all night and in order to achieve that we had to limit what Hush could play. Currently, Hush can only play preset tracks but we are exploring the ability to let users upload their own custom sounds. Last updated: Wed, Nov 12 2014 2:50 pm EST

What if Hush is uncomfortable for me?

We’ve implemented many features that should make sleeping with Hush a pleasant experience. All ears are shaped differently though and we can’t guarantee that Hush will be comfortable for everyone. Once we ship the product we will have a 90-day return policy, no questions asked. Last updated: Fri, Dec 19 2014 3:19 am EST

Does Hush provide active noise cancellation?

Hush reduces sound in two ways. First, the sound eliminating foam provides passive noise reduction as a first sound barrier. Then, the in-ear speaker plays a track to mask any residual sound that the foam did not block out. We combine these two time-tested popular approaches to dealing with noisy sleep environments. Active noise cancellation is a bit of a newer technology that is generally not that great at cancelling out the sudden sounds that are most responsible for disturbing your sleep at night. So in short, we do not use active noise cancellation but use the combination of two other effective means of noise isolation. Last updated: Wed, Nov 12 2014 4:05 pm EST

What about radiation?

By not streaming audio throughout the night but playing back audio files stored in the earplug itself, Hush achieves ultra-low radiation exposure. Over the entire night, users are exposed to a fraction of a percent that business professionals using Bluetooth headsets are exposed to during a single phone call. How do you clean Hush?

The foam piece to Hush is replaceable and can be washed under the sink. The foam should be swapped as often as your hygienic tolerances allow - we personally replace them weekly however some people use the same foam for months on end. We will make the replacement foam readily available on our website by the time we ship the product so that once you test out the correct size foam tip (S/M/L) that fits you best, you can order a larger quantity of the correct size! What if the earplugs fall out in the middle of the night? Would I still hear my alarm?

They should not fall out if the correct sized foam is used and inserted correctly. However, in the off-chance that both fall out, the earplugs will know because the user will not turn off the alarm. After 30 seconds of the earplugs’ alarm sounding without a response, the system will assume the earplugs have fallen out and begin to sound the smartphone’s alarm - which the user should then be able to hear because the earplugs are no longer in the ears. What about fire alarms?

We can block out ~70dB at best - fire/smoke/emergency alarms are generally much louder than that. However, we plan to connect into the smart home ecosystem in the future (think smart alarms/baby monitors/security systems/etc) for those that are paranoid so that you can still hear anything you are concerned about loud and clear. Shipping for Canada/Mexico Backers

Kickstarter is rigid in not allowing modifications made to shipping costs once the campaign has started. Because shipping to our Northern/Southern neighbors is considerably cheaper, we wanted to offer discounted shipping rates to these international backers. If you are a backer from Canada/Mexico, put “Ship reward to ‘United States’” in the ‘Back this Project’ Confirmation page so that you are not charged any extra shipping fees. Do NOT put “Ship reward to ‘Canada/Mexico.’” After the campaign, we will request an additional $10(Canada)/$15(Mexico) shipping fee respectively through a post-Kickstarter backer management platform. Is there a warranty?

Hush will have a one year limited manufacturer warranty akin to those found in other similar consumer electronic devices. Last updated: Fri, Dec 19 2014 7:20 pm EST

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
